Alan H @ Stumptown!
The local athletics groups has in the past organized an informal day at the Stumptown Brewery in Guerneville. The party was "on" this year. The day was full of non-traditional events like the Stumptown Stone, thrown for distance off a 4-foot berm!...the open stone was thrown that way, too. AMAZING I notched a 2-foot PR! The men threw the 28'er for height, the women threw the 20. We tossed some 16 pound sheaf and then had a caber-shootout where you started with the smallest womens caber and worked up to a good, solid 18 foot "A" stick. You had one shot at each. I "went out" at the 16' 6" 92 pounder. I **allll-most** turned it. That's the stick I turned twice at Woodland. Anyway, the venue is gorgeous....on to the pictures!

Yours Truly with the Stumptown Stone (90 pounds)

Picking up "Grandpa's" Caber...the one we used to give to 50+ Masters, until a couple of the guys got really good. I used to struggle with this stick, I'd turn it about every third Games. Now it's no challenge at all, I guess I've gotten better!

over she goes!

I took one of the lighter cabers and did silly things with it. Upshot was, I wound up turning it FACING the judges.

It was a great day, really a blast and a half.

The real corker of the day for me was early-on. We were just messin' around with the 28'er for distance since we had some guys out who had never thrown before. I nailed a 51-foot toss. yeah, I fouled over the trig, but I HIT it....never thrown over 50 in front of anybody before. All my 50'ers have been in practice, well warmed up and always alone. So that was great fun. The field had a little downslope to it, but not much. It would "qualify". So now my personal bar has been raised!

It was at a brewery yet I didn't see one pic of beers. I don't get athletics (of any sort) but beer and BBQ I can do.

You *might* be able to see the whole album, including pics of the grill and a number of pictures of scruffy kilted gentlemen at the keg, on my FB album.
