Amber Benson from Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Not really kilt related, but I was kilted, and I know we have a few Buffy fans on the forum.
Amber Benson is a very talented actress/writer/director who is best known for playing Tara Maclay on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. She was in Houston today (2/25) to sign her new book 'Cat's Claw'. Since my brother in-law owns the book shop, I got to meet her and have a little chat before the signing event started. You never know how 'celebrities' are gonna act, but she was as normal and nice as anyone.
Amber and many of the girls at the shop loved the kilt BTW! And as usual I got some photos.....

Chatting with some fans,
She wasn't just hawking her book, she'd talk about anything, and had tons of fun stories to tell.

As well as being smart, lovely, and multi-talented she is really friendly and charming as well, a real sweetheart.

Looks like you had nice afternoon. Was the shop crowded for the event?

Surprizingly no, there were about 35-40 fans on hand, and like 20 requests for signed books for people that weren't there. I'd think a writer who is also a media star would pull more people. I asked my brother in-law (the owner) and he said it was a good crowd. The event was really only advertised on Ambers website and the stores e-mail list. Murder By The Book is mostly a mystery/crime book shop, and I've been to signings there by mainstrean mystery authors that were very crowded. Amber's urban fantasy books are a not their main draw, so I guess a lot of the stores regulars just weren't that interested.

It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.
