Battle for Bourtange (Netherlands)
So, today me and my girlfriend and a friend of hers went to see the re-enactment of the Battle for Bourtange (early 19th century). Lot's of things going 'boom', as men generally tend to like, lots of good old-fashioned food and lots of awesome costumes. I made 60 pictures in all, but I'll try to limit myself to the most important!
First, allow me to introduce myself in my daily outfit:

A view of the fort:

Then, on to the battle and the fortress! Lots of Black Watch troops, as well as a fair amount of Gordon Highlanders! Starting with the inspection of the troops by the major of Vlagtwedde.

Troops marching through the streets all day!

And of course I had to bother the poor commander for a picture! Because that's what you do, being a tourist in your own country!

Then there was the battle, lasting approximately 2 hours. Sadly, my camera decided to die on me, but not before I had made some pictures.

And finally, not relating to kilts but a picture I am proud of, even though it is not completely in focus (the blast of the cannons kept shaking my hands, there were a good 15 of them...)

Hope you enjoyed it!

Looks like it was a very cool demonstration!
I'm curious about one aspect of their dress. I see that the reenactors are wearing black spats. Is this historically correct?

If you google black watch 1815, there isn't one picture without dark-coloured spats... I reckon it's alright :P

Thanks for them pics. Must have been a hot day for both the olde troops and the reenactors-regardless of the actual temperatures.
