Bellydancer and The Kilt
Today after a New World Celt Lakeland Chapter meeting myself and the president went and had dinner at a nice little place that served Arabic food. To my surprise a Bellydancer too.

She twenty three and a RN

Did I mention she is Scottish.

Here's the kilt, if you can see it. By the way it's the new tartan that Frugal Corner did for the New World Celts. Over 100 are on order...

She was well worth the money... There the kilt again.

Here she is with the President of the Chapter, Jim.. Look another Kilt.

The title of this thread reminded me of my wedding. My wife's heritage is part Lebanese (via South America), and at our wedding she had a second cousin (or a first cousin once removed... whatever) fly up from Colombia. The young lady had been taking belly dance classes, and as a gift to us, performed a dance during the reception.
We had done a Scottish Country dance during the reception, as well. Many of the gents were in kilts. Then the gears shift and this beautiful, olive skinned, dark haired young lady puts on some Arabic music and dances for the crowd.
Thing is, though, this was a true belly dance. Forget all those silly "I dream of Jeanie" images. She was dressed like any nice conservative young lady would dress to a formal dinner -- not erotic at all. And the dance, while sexy and beautiful, was not suggestive. Needless to say, no one dared approach her with dollar bills -- I think there would have been some rather large Colombian men who would have had a thing or two to say about that!
Anyway, the mix of cultures made for a very memorable wedding reception. The music and dances were a nice mix of American/Scottish/Hispanic/Arabic traditions. You don't see that every day!

The title of the thread made me think of the MacAuslan stories written by great George MacDonald Fraser, who passed away recently. Looks like everybody had a good time!

Tipping a guest at a wedding is not seen, but this young lady works for pay and what tips she receives.

I also did it in a respectable manner by showering her with the tips, not putting it in her costume like you would with an American stripper.

Two summers ago the BBC, exploiting its success with Strictly Come Dancing (Dancing with Celebrities in the USA) in stimulating interest in dance, decided to set up a "world record attempt" (for the Guinness Book of Records) on creating the largest simultaneous dance. Groups of dancers around the country were invited to get together in their own towns and, at at given moment the whole collection of dancers would go through the same routine at the same time - hence the record. There was a nationwide simultaneous radio broadcast from local stations to cover the event.
The range of dance types was very broad - from ballroom to belly dancing - and it included Scottish Country Dance. So when it came to the big record attempt there I was in full kilt regalia between two belly dancers dressed as shown in Shriner's photos above ready to perform before a be-dazzled crowd in a local shopping centre. Since all of our SCD dancers were dispersed throughout the dancing group there was no-one to take a picture of this odd combination but there was a BBC TV news crew filming the event so I did hope there would be a record of all this. Alas the edited version broadcast later did not dwell on the mixture of ancient Scot and nubile belly dancer. I quite understand that I was not what the cameras were looking for but I can claim to have danced in very exotic surroundings

At a nameless Ren Fest that I went to, the bellydancer had a moustache and a wandering eye. She was haunting, too.
