Hi It was my birthday the other week and my friends bought me and the wife a yearly pass for Historic Scotland this was our first local trip. Blackness castle is situated on the forth and has seen quite a lot off fighting burned in 1443 when the Douglases,Crichtons and Livingstones were tearing the Kingdom apart to control the crown. It was restored again to be burned by the English in 1481 then it was burned again in 1547 by King Henry. It has served as a prison for the covenanters and was manned up until the 19th century it was staffed by a governor,a lieutenant-governor,two gunners, one sergeant and fourteen privates

Excellent pics, Lammy. Despite being an only and a half's drive from home, this castle is one which is still on my "to visit" list. I've often wondered is it correctly Black Ness Castle or Blackness Castle?

Great pictures! Thank you for sharing. The castles of Scotland are without doubt something I wish to see some day. One thing is missing from your shots, though... Where's the kilt?!
Excellent photos. It's a while since I've been there but it is still remarkably intact. I think it was used latterly as a gunpowder store for the Rosyth naval base across the Forth. There is a coastal walk from Blackness to Bo'ness and a nice little pub in the village.
Great pics, thanks mate.
Ah...perhaps someday I will get to visit Europe....Scotland is on the top of my list!
