    bobcat at oak glen

My wife and I went to Oak Glen Ca. to hike the Wild lands Conservancy. I love seeing wild life in their natural state and have been able to mark off most of the animals on my list, Grizzlies, black bears, bison, pronghorn, wolves, foxes, moose, pika, marmots, weasels, raccoons, bald and golden eagles, porcupines, big horns and mountain goats as well as the more common elk, deer, possums, coyotes. There are probably some I'm missing but that will do for now. Some of the ones I still need to see are cougars and wolverines but sunday I did get to cross off one of them. In an orchard in Oak Glen there was a Bob Cat hunting rodents. Click image for larger version.

You were lucky to see the bobcat. And Griz was lucky not to do so. Thanks for the great pics.

That's a healthy looking cat. They don't get that big in AZ. Neither do coyotes. When I lived in Iowa, the coyotes there were like huskies. Here in AZ, they are like the cartoon.

I've lived in both states. I lived in North western Iowa (when I was young)and don't remember there being coyotes where I lived and although I am sure both were in Flagstaff I never saw either.

I lived in the des moines area and for a couple years, worked in southern Iowa. Flag is different than where I live, which is way east valley. We're lousy with coyotes here. There are bobcats too, lots of javalina.

I was in Denison. My wife comes from Benson Az. where they have havalina out the wazoo. I think they are cool but my inlaws aren't thrilled about them. (of course the
y aren't really thrilled about me either)

We've had a couple attacks on people and their pets in the last year. One woman was walking her dog, something small like a bijon and it killed the dog and put her in the hospital for a couple weeks. The DNR won't do crap about it. They are totally unmanaged and the granola types feed them and the coyotes here. Pets get killed all the time by a variety of creatures. I lost a cat on a 2nd story balcony. It was like he was beamed up. The best I can guess was an owl. Cats can't go out at all anymore. I have a cairn/daschund mix and he can go on the balcony. He's like Joe Pesci in Casino or Good Fellas. If he doesn't know a visitor, he wants to kill them and if he continues to be like that after they have been around, chances are they're no good. Otherwise, he's a love with us. When I swim under the water in the pool, he'll jump in and "try" to save me. The javalinas wreak havoc on plants too. They've destroyed a couple things I had. If it was up to me I'd use them to feed the homeless.
