At the risk of getting someone riled up....
I'd think the music fits perfectly. "American Country Music" originated in the Appalachian mountains of the eastern USA,
as did "blue grass music". This area was primarily settled by Scots and Scots-Irish immigrants, who brought their music
and other skills, (Whisky making comes to mind), with them.
So, in my humble opinion, we can thank, (or blame, ) the Scots for American Country Music.

I would generally put Country music in the "western or cowboy" class and Celtic music in the "Folk" class, however, it doesn't really matter. Perhaps this is my just my Canadian perspective.
