Can Am Pipes and Drums Visit Hawick

Enchanted by the Pipes by cessna152towser, on Flickr
Today was the big day when the Can Am Pipes and Drums arrived in town. Many of our local pipers and drummers would join them in their performances and marches and earlier in the day Gabrielle and Martina have a preview of the music as our neighbour Mackie practices on his pipes.

It really is a small world because Gabrielle and I already knew the band's photographer, from Stirling Ontario, through another forum and we arranged to meet up in town.

The massed band was formed of the Can Am Pipes and Drums plus local pipers and drummers, mostly from Hawick Scout Fellowship Pipe Band.

Most of the band were from the Canadian west, with Alberta and British Columbia well represented, including members from Pender Island and Vancouver Island, though there were a few from other parts of Canada and from the USA.

Excellent photos! They bring back pleasant memories of a fun day. I was there with the Can-Am Pipes & Drums. In most of the head-on shots, you can spot me in the front rank on the far right (far left in a couple after a countermarch) with the red pipe bag cover and wearing the ancient MacKenzie kilt. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to Hawick.

I think I have you spotted (MacKenzie kilt, red pipe bag, spectacles, grey moustache and beard?)
It is always a pleasure to be able to match another face to an xmarks username.
One of the joys of living in one of Scotland's touristy towns is being able to photograph events like this happening within a short walk from my house.
I hear that your band may be coming to Hawick again in 2014 and I hope to have the opportunity to meet you next time.
