    Chasin Union Pacfic engine #844

Every year, the Union Pacific Railroad breaks out Engine #844 to run from Denver to Cheyenne, Wy for their Frontier Days celebration. Every couple years, we chase the train. This particular weekend happens to be the weekend of the run- and our latest train chase! These are the pictures from our last 2 chases!

We started out at the UP station in Cheyenne. The light is much better in the afternoon than in the morning, so this is where the photo journey starts!

And the guests of honor, the 844:

    And the DD-40 helper engine:

And as is my custom, the chosen attire for me was my Colorado state tartan kilt!

    The chase!

And the places where I caught it!

So... Been at it since early this morning.

It's time for me to become unconscious.

Don't scare the Sand Man, Hawk.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Scare him? I bit him once... Quite by mistake- he startled me.

Thanks! It was a rough day... I had a hard time getting past the pacers, so I couldn't get in position to get any really good photos. Usually the pacers leave the right hand lane open, but this year, they had both lanes blocked and weren't letting anyone by... Oh well. Such is life!

Poor guy, never knew what bit him...

Hmmm, a Sand Man sandwich... Sounds kind of hard on the teeth.

Alas, I can't make it to frontier days this year, such a pity.

Great pictures! That truly looks like a lot of fun, and what a magnificent locomotive! They just don't make them like that anymore...

Been there - done that. LOL! Chased the U.P. 3985 through East Texas years ago and had the same thing happen. Years later I chased the Cotton Belt 819 across from Dallas to Texarkana. That time I used my Harley. No problem.

All things considered, I'd say you still got some great shots!
