I went there quite a few years ago with one of my university Chumrades; a jolly good day out.

Neat pics - There should be (probably are) week-long get-away vactions to live in such places. Cutting wood, cooking, wearing what they wore.

There are plenty of houses with thatched roofs in various parts of the UK. Norfolk reed makes the best thatch and wheat straw a second best. The modern short strawed verieties of wheat and the modern combine harvester destroy the straw for thatching, but old verieties , the binder, stooks, and the threshing machine are still used to get thatching straw. Like kiltmakers who can tell at a glance who made a kilt, thatchers can recognise others work. We once had a thatcher who burst into tears when he saw his grand fathers work, when he came to do a quote for a new roof on a cottage.

These shots have an aire of "Hobbiton" about them. I almost expect to see Bilbo roaming around. Very charming place!
