Comicpalooza Convention
OK, this morning I was on the ground for a few hours at the Houston comic-con, Comicpalooza. There were quite a few kilts on hand, with an about even mix of tartan and contemporary, but sorry I didn't really get photos of them! I'd kind of been out of touch with the local sci-fi community for the last year or so, so I spent most of my time meeting and greeting, but I got a couple photos I hope you'll enjoy....

Right in the door I ran into a couple of friends, decked out as Dark Phoenix and Dr.Horrible.

Like how I coordinated my XMarks tartan and the worlds coolest Doctor Who shirt?

Codex from the Guild webseries.

Predator and a Starfleet officer.

I love Sci-Fi

One of my favorite writers signed a book for me,
And the highlight of my day;

The lovely and talented Anne Lockhart! Best remembered for her role as Lt. Sheba in the original Battlestar Galactica. I was able to spend quite a while talking with this charming lady about everything from her TV work to our Irish heritage. I've had a little crush on her since the late 70's, so she really made my day.

great pics, and i love dr who and scifi. i stupidly did not go to comicon when it passed through new orleans last time, but i definitely will go next year. zardoz's enthusiasm for renfests and cons is rubbing off on me.
just to completely date myself, i went several times to a local creation called "vulcon" back in the early 80's, before the commercial forces of sci fi, fantasy, gaming, anime, and comics combined into the juggernaut cons of today--sort of like how the small scale renfests i went to as a dungeons and dragons, board gaming, lotr worshiping "tween" became the much larger scale production i finally attended last year. i drifted away from all of this stuff for a couple of decades, until new dr who, bsg, lotr, game of thrones, and comic based movies came out more recently. even more recently, the xmarks cthulhu cult has me more interested in re reading some lovecraft.
as good ol' tom baker said, "what is the point of being an adult, if you can't be childish sometimes?".
i have a few friends who will be my very knowledgeable comics ambassadors and will not mind i f i tag along to comicon next time around.
[edit--i think kilted emt guy is wearing a kilt from bunker kilts]
[and there seem to be more pretty girls at these things than there were in the late 70's and early 80's--hooray for geekdom becoming more popular]
