Derby Day is for peacocks, right?

Lovely Wife and I for years have hosted a Kentucky Derby party at our home to benefit the Littlest Tumor Foundation, an organization that advocates for research into neurofibromatosis (NF) and provides a retreat for kids and families each summer.

For the last couple of years, friends who run a local wine bar have invited us to hold a party at their place. We run a simple raffle for chances to win a gift card for wine (win-place-show) or a little box of candy (all others).

Here I am with Lovely Wife (center) and a “fascinated” friend who hosts wine tastings.

The ladies in their Derby hats rouse the peacock instincts, don’t you know?

I too have to comment on the hat. First, I believe that the horse on the hat is Pokey (Gumby's pal) incognito. Pokey is normally orange with a black mane and tail so the color isn't right. So I may be imagining a truly whimsical hat.

A gentleman in a kilt during a celebration of the Running of the Roses can only compliment the festive hats of the fairer sex. Bravo and I hope there were good results for the benefit. Thanks for sharing.
