Dickens on the Strand 2011
Once again, this weekend we attended the 38th Annual Dickens on The Strand festival in Galveston's historic district...As usual we had 'varying' weather over the two days, but a good time was had!
on to the photos...

Shortly after hitting the gate Saturday I saw the St. Thomas' Episcopal School Pipe Band,

and some pretty girls,

And the Queen!

I ran into some of the Girltourage; Brenda and Sandy, who have to take a picture with every Christmas tree they see...

Mary Poppins !

XMarker Triolamj

See what I mean about the photos with Christmas trees?

Lots of steampunk types out that day..

Linda, Angie, Sandy and me; some tired festival goers. Especially Angie, since she didn't go in costume she became the photographer and pack mule for the rest of the crew.

Re: Dickens on the Strand 2011 part II
Ok, after a very nice day on Saturday, we got up ready for fun on Sunday!
And here's what the Strand looked like when the gates opened;

Yep, it was raining pretty good!

I followed my ears, and found the Bayou City Pipes and Drums playing from shelter !

with XMarker Trifin.

But after a while the rain slacked off a bit, and some folks started trickling in...

I saw the 'Victorian Bed Races',

and had a nice chat with Queen Victoria, but we were harrassed by the paparazzi. Since there weren't too many folks in costume early on, everyone who was in garb got stopped for photos! I lost count after the first 10 or 15...

On my way out I caught the 1st Texas Brigade (CSA) firing a volley.

Thanks, it did stand out. I had a lady compliment me and say that I was "quite the peacock, even among the other kilted men"

This looks like a fun event. Maybe I'll get to see it first-hand some day.
My internet connection is slow, and the caption "and some pretty girls" popped up with the picture of the Beefeaters and her late Majesty. I wondered if there were some kind of problem with your camera.

Looking great Mark!
I'm beginning to compile a list of why I like Dickens Fairs more than Ren Faires
Reason #1 is the Gin and Tonics...

Looks excellent as always...
...and, dude, there are many who eschew the wearing of the flat 'at with the kilt (and I am not one of them, mind you) but you carry it off right well...let the skeptical take note!

Thanks!
If the weather is a 'bit soft' as they say, and you are wearing glasses, the flat cap is a much more practical cover than a tam, balmoral, or glengarry. Remember; here's no such thing as bad weather, only unsuitable clothing.
