    Talking Dickens on the Strand

We have a annual Dickens festival down in the Galveston historic district every year. They encourage everyone to dress in Victorian era outfits etc.. I think there were more kilts this year than I've ever seen. I carried a camera around all day, but kind of forgot I had it so I only took a few pictures! Too bad too, there were some good "kilt don'ts" in the crowd!

Well, let us all be thankful for out kilt dont's that didn't get snapped. Is there any connection between Dickens and the people who settled Galveston? Or do you all simply enjoy good literature?

No, Galveston island was originally "settled" by pirates in the late 1700's. The first permanent European settlements on the island were constructed in the early 1800's the pirate Jean Lafitte. Most of what is now Galveston's historic district was built in the mid to late 1800's, and in the 70's somebody thought it would be fun to re-enact Charles Dicken's Victorian London for a Christmas festival. We always have a good time!
