Dress Blue Marine at Wupatki National Monument

Yeah, I've been wearing this tartan a lot lately - but I love it! Stopped by Wupatki and the Box Canyon Ruins and the Lomaki Pueblo Ruins. Lomaki means "Beautiful House." These places were built by the Anasazi and the Sinagua back about 1100...900 years old and still standing.

This is the more Northern of the Box Canyon Ruins

And this is the more Southern of the Box Canyon Ruins

And, here's the South side of the Lomaki Ruins

And a pleat shot at Lomaki

Here's a pic looking West to the San Francisco Peaks. The Wupatki sites were build on the lava fields from the volcanos around the San Francisco peaks. Flagstaff, Arizona is at the southern base of those mountains.

Nice pics, as always, Ron. Much appreciated. A fine kilt, indeed.

I am always humbled, even as a passive archaeology and history student, by the archaeological sites in the Southwest. In my neck of the woods of Southern California there is little in the way of standing structures dating back that far, archaeology is, sadly, dismissed in California it seems.

The Anasazi remind me of the Nabateans (the builders of Petra in modern Jordan). Beautifully inventive, somewhat 'alien' in their approach, but always breathtaking.
