Early morning kilted run
What a way to start the day, today has already been a good one. Mine started with a 3:45 page to the cardiac cath lab for a patient being flown in for a heart attack. Everything went well with the emergency and the 75yr old woman is now resting comfortably in an ICU unit. I was out of the lab by 5:30 and not needing to be back at work until 9am. The sun had just been up for maybe an hour and my thermometer on my car read 50F. Well with so much time and a new running kilt to try out on the trails what else could I do. I had to dilly dally around till my call was over at 6:30 so by 6:31 I was in my kilt and running shoes heading to my favorite park for some trail running. This was the virgin run for a new kilt I made, yes I made it. The details are on the thread link below.

Well I dont brag much in life so Im a bit at a quandary about how to toot my horn and tell you how comfy this kilt is. The trails were in perfect shape, the temp was 50F, the sun low enough to keep everything cool and no one else was around but me. This is how I like trail running. Those runners out there, and hikers, can relate to being out on a beautiful morning alone with nothing but nature around you. The kilt worked out perfect, better than I hoped. Ive been running in Elkommando kilts for 10 months and wanted something a bit lighter and more traditional in fit. This kilt fit the bill and worked out fantastic. The pleats stayed laying down and not flying or skirting up, the aprons stayed put for the most part, and the waist was just right to strap on my bottle carrier. Everything stayed up properly and the belt didnt dig into my hips like my Elkommando kilts do. They are jeans waist fit and this kilt is proper waist fit. I spent 45 minutes running up and down rough single track trails reserved to hikers, runner and for 3 months horse riders. Mt Bikers are restricted to the 12 miles of trail across the road in the other sections of the park. This left me with a park to myself and how glorious can that be. Below are two photos because without photos it didnt happen.
Heading out for a wonderful run

What a day, back from the woods mentally and physically refreshed

The day can only continue to go well now. Being Buddhist I always have to remind myself those 3AM emergency calls are not a disruption to my sleep but the need for my being mindful and focused on the suffering of others, those being brought in with cardiac problems. I was able to take what we had done this morning to the woods and look at the wonderful impermanence of the world as spring is taking over an area that not many weeks ago was barren and gray from winter. Soon more flowers will appear and each time I go out there, even though I have run that trail for over 15 years, I will see something new. I felt my karmic stream really flowing in a good direction this morning and plan to stay mindful of the rest of my day. Right now Ill enjoy some good dark coffee and put on my Blackwatch kilt and enjoy my 1 mile walk to work. I hope everyone out there gets chances to start days like this, and even gets lucky enough to have made their own running kilt.

Wonderful, all three...the kilt, the run, and your attitude.

Lovely pics. Even better is your "gentle" approach to helping others. Keep up the focus and the good work.

Running. Well, yes, I have heard of it. And I am sure that I must have done some in my youth.
But I do envy you the ability to walk to work. Well, not so much the to, but rather the home from. No better way, I think to unwind.
Regards
Chas
