Fall trip to the Eastern Sierra Nevada

The Luminous Joan and I took a late Summer/early Fall trip to two spectacular valleys in the Eastern Sierra Nevada, here in California, this past week. I hiked all around, kilted up, of course!

I thought you might enjoy some of our photos...

OK, I'm having issues with Flickr, I will upload elsewhere and link to the pictures there. MODS< would one of you please delete this thread until I get this figured out? I'm a dork, but I seem to not be able to figure out how to delete my own thread.

Really, none of the mods will delete this? OK, fine....pictures of me, but no pictures of Joan. My agreement with Joan is that I don't post pictures of her online without her prior approval. She approved the pics on flickr, but I haven't uploaded pics of her to FB, so you'll all just have to put up with shots of me, but not her!

Yours Truly at the trailhead, Day Two (after the warmup hike)..

We climbed to Ruby Lake, at about 11,200 feet, and the pattern of nice mornings followed by stormy afternoons set itself up. Here's a nice shot of the Little Lakes Valley from the Mono Pass/Ruby Lake trail in the morning.

But It was COLD coming down!

Same spot on the trail, in the afternoon.....beautiful, but brrrrr....well, not so much at this point. We're down to 10,500 feet at this point.

    This is where we're hiking...

The next day we set out on a different trail, that wound around the mouth of the valley and into the neighboring valley.

Here's the view off the ridge and down the valley, from that last "kilt shot spot"!!

The next day we had a goal....Morgan Pass at 11,300 feet, more or less. The trail takes us past Long Lake..

and then up the ascent to the pass.

    We made it!!!

    We were there, honest!

After coming down off the pass....it was windy and bluidy cold up there, we stopped by Gem Lake for lunch.

...and then hiked back to camp, the trail taking us by Long Lake, again.

I'm skipping a few days, here...and the Luminous Joan DID go with me, but she hasn't approved the posting of any of her pictures from the trip, yet, so you'll just have to believe me.

The last days hike was up McGee Creek Canyon. Here's the view from the PARKING LOT, incredibly...

...and partway up the hill, with the aspen turning color...

After a few hours on the trail, it feels good to take those boots off, though!!

The kilt is a reverse kinguisse-pleated, poly-cotton, 5 yard job that closes with velcro. No straps or buttons are under the waistband to grind into my hips when I'm wearing a 50 pound backpack (these pictures are just my day-pack) with a padded waist-strap. The fabric is from JoAnnes...cheap stuff. It's NOT an X-Kilt!.
