    A first kilt

So here's our Kenneth, newly kilted.

Aye, it's a Sportkilt. My top-two tartans are Wallace and MacGregor. Wallace is easy, but SK is the only modestly priced option that I've seen in MacGregor. The good news is that I'm glad I bought it, and I will enjoy wearing it.

Having begun with modest expectations, I am very much pleased with the fabric. I don't know what this blend is, but it has a terrific feel and decent drape. These pix were taken after unboxing it and hanging it up for just an afternoon. In our climate we don't usually need the steam gizmos!

The socks are by Wigwam---yes, they are grey on black.

When seen outdoors in my native habitat, I will invariably be wearing a Tilley hat. For anyone with my complexion (extra pale) and latitude (34), the Tilley is highly recommended. So it is to be hoped that the Kilt Police [NO ONE expects the Kilt Police] will not object.

For a casual look, the canonical Celtic cross T-shirt from the shop at Furness Abbey, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/s...onProperty.149

The obligatory pleat shot. The kilt contains barely 3.5 yards of fabric, yet manages to look pretty decent. There are about 12 pleats; the sett is about 6 inches, and the pleats take the same amount of fabric; so we lose the vertical stripe entirely in back. Again given the modest amount of cloth, I can hardly complain. I might wish that the pattern were centered on the apron, or maybe I'm wearing it a little off; but it has a certain charm as it is. The kilt has a nice feel ...

    ... even a decent swing.

As another Tilley hat wearer IMHO they look great with kilts.

I think the Tilley looks great with the kilt. I have one myself, and will probably wear it once I get my kilt.

    Thanks for sharing!
