    First time 'round the post

Tried to post this earlier, but my computer operating skills are apparently not the equal of the XMarks board...

A few days ago I received a large box from USA Kilts. Two of the items contained were this U.S. Army tartan kilt (appropriately, a "tank") and black formal sporran.

Threw a green sweater over it...

...and immediately melted into a puddle, so I took it off.

The pleats are remarkable to a first-timer:

And yes, I'm sure the belt is entirely inappropriate. Somewhere in the world, I have a 1.5" leather belt that should do the business, if I can but find it. I'll also be on the lookout for a less formal sporran to increase flexibility.

    Cheers,

    Jack

I went and purchased a leather tool belt from harbor freight for $8.00. I wiped it down with some rubbing alcohol the put brown liquid boot polish on it.

Looks good! Enough snow dusted there for a Seattle shut-down.

    You are so lucky!

I am waiting for the large box from USA Kilts. Yours looks great.

    Thanks, Blupiper.

FTR, our real shutdown wasn't from snow. A semi-truck full of liquified gas rolled over where the interstate runs through downtown, and shut down both directions for several hours. Insta-gridllock ensued; pedestrians and bicyclists ruled the day.

In addition to investing in a more practical sporran, I may lash a bike rack to the back of the family wagon...

    TY, Mike.

It was a lot of fun opening that box and laying out its contents. Awe and wonder and all that.

The last time (that is, only) time I received a bespoke garment was from Langlitz Leathers in Portland. It's quite a nice feeling.

Now THAT'S a great idea. I still have a belted tool pouch left over from days in the trades. It's probably about two inches, and a bit age darkened.

There's a can of polish around here somewhere...

    Thanks, Grizz.

Best part about "snow days" is not working regular hours. That means I can crouch in wait, and ambush the teenager with snowballs as she's hiking up from the bus stop.

    Cheers,

    Jack
