A Friends Wedding...
No this is not gonna be one of those threads about "should I wear a kilt to a wedding?" or "should I ask someone how to dress for the wedding?" etc...
Barbara, one of our motorcycling friends, got married today (3/6) in a small, but very nice ceremony in Cypress Texas, out West a bit from Houston. It was a lovely day for it. I wore my kilt, and as usual I took some photos....And who doesn't like weddings?
Here's a couple photos;

Barbara and her Dad.

The Happy Couple.

The Bride and I.

Jill, one of the Bridesmaids. I knew the wedding colors were Ivory and Blue, so I made a little effort to blend in.

My good friend Mindy, my wife had to work at the Houston Rodeo that morning, so Mindy was my date.

Fancy Cake. It took 3 'cake toppers' to cover all their hobbies!

Barbara's bike club.

Bubble Attack!
I can assure you that I did not "upstage the Bride" like folks always worry about! Not even close!
I did take a few photos with the girls, and have nice conversations about the usual kilt/Celtic stuff.
Barbara's father has traveled quite a bit in Scotland, and we had a nice conversation about it. He told me it was obvious that I had respect for the kilt and it's history, and thanked me for wearing my best for the day.

Wonderful photos, congratulations to the happy couple. I like how she coordinated her colours to match the bike.

Great set of photos, and you all look great!
Is it sort of "modernly-traditional" for a Texas to wear a cowbow hat with a suit at weddings?
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

In Texas, boots and cowboy hats are quite correct with a suit for gentlemen on most any occasion.

Everyday
I wear a "cowboy" hat every time I step outside.
Like Kilts, there is a protocol. Black at night, or in the day during the winter. White straw in the day or evening in the summer.
I have a brown felt hat for those occasions when I dress in brown during the winter or in the evening.
It is rare to see a white hat such as this gentleman is wearing. It is difficult to keep one clean. I would enjoy having one, but where would you put it when you sat down at the table? Right now all of my hats are placed upside down under my chair when I sit down in a restaurant. Hatracks are a thing of the past, except by my front door.
Never confuse a work hat with a "dress up" hat. Leather hats are for movies. hats that are "hybrids", (small brim or not overly western) do not look good out here, or anywhere else. Hats that are "stressed", (made to look used), are for tourists. Hats that are perfect in every detail and look brand new are what you want to wear when you go out, at least around here.
Don't forget the hatband, one for each hat, each of mine cost more than the hat, but they are transferrable.
However, some cowboys don't ever put a different hatband on, and go with the one from the factory or maybe add a little fluffy feather.
Like a kilt, it takes a big man to wear a big hat.

Nice photos Z. Congratulations to the bride and groom.
I like the straight cut waistcoat. Where did you purchase the jacket and waistcoat?

A fine example there of how it should be done, I wish more people especially here in Scotland could take a leaf out of your book Sir.
Hats off to you

Maybe, but all the working buckaroos I've ever known out of Oregon & Idaho for the most part wear one color only, black (like myself)
I've also seen a few "natural" & pecan colored ones being worn by those working the Jordan Valley (Eastern Oregon) etc. I'm sure its probably a regional thing however.

Indeed! The one I wear was hand made for me back in 1990 by Tom Hirt, just prior to his making all of actor Sam Elliot's hats (amongst other actors) that is called the "Will James". Its the afore mentioned black, with a 5" brim & 5 1/2" to 6" crown (10 1/2 gallon ).
I've worn it everywhere, from Washington to Texas and though well worn (I just had the brim reshaped by the commissioner for the PRCA) I always get positive comments, with the majority saying "most people can't get away with wearing a hat that big, but you pull it off"!
