German Wedding
It was my nephew's wedding at the weekend, a good bash it was too!
Here are a few pics. You might even spot a kilt or two:
The 'eve of the wedding' party (which actually took place on Wednesday) - an informal and boozy party. Every guest brings some crockery with them to smash in front of the house door. The shards are supposed to bring good luck. A good opportunity to dispose of that old kitchen sink!

A brief respite from the rain gives us a chance to stand outside:

Oh, is that the time...?

Of course, the obligatory low-angle kilt pic, they never tire of it do they...

At midnight, the couple sweep up the fragments together. This symbolises harmony and cooperation in the future marriage.

The wedding ceremony took place on Saturday afternoon in the "Parisian Room" of Flensburg's museum. The room was built for the 1900 World's Exhibition in Paris and won a gold medal - the style is a hotch-potch of various German influences.
Lots of Danish family at the ceremony; my nephew is half Danish.

This beautiful 1965 Mustang belongs to a friend of the groom's brother. It drew almost as many admiring stares as the bride!

Then it was off to the reception, which was a great party. We left at 4 a.m. and things were still in full swing.
You saw me drinking earlier; now this is life and soul of the party me rolling a ciggy...
You don't want to see me dancing - they call me (with more than a hint of irony) the 'Scottish John Travolta'.

Thanks to my brother-in-law (and father of the groom) Aksel for the photos.
Cheers
Kevin

Great pics! Thanks for sharing. I have lived in germany 3 years , though i've never been to a german wedding, and never heard about the pottery breaking. Is that a tradition in all of germany or just your region?

That looked like a great time. And what a better time to wear the kilt than at the reception and then the wedding. Congrats to the bride a groom!
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

Looks like a fantastic wedding.
I'm always interested in wedding customs. I recently attended the wedding of two Swedish friends and was surprised by an odd ritual that required the bride and groom to walk back and forth holding each other's shoes on top of their heads.

Great pics! I was lucky enough to witness the dish breaking as a friend of mine and I were on a bike ride through Speyer. It really is something else. Its one thing to read about it, but to see it is really cool.

That's really interesting reading about different customs. I thought it was only Greek people who smashed plates so you live and learn. Great pictures by the way.
