    Got my first kilt

Well, I finally got it, and I love it. My wife and two of the kids walked around Old Town Alexandria today, and it was great. I can't believe how comfortable it is. I'm going to have a hard time going back to pants for work Monday. Any way, this is the picture forum, so here they are:

It looks great. From the pictures it looks as if you may be wearing it a bit low though. It should come to the top o' the knee.

    Otherwise, very good.

I think a bit of that may be the camera angle on a couple of the pics. But most of it is my long trunk/short legs. It was part of a budget kilt package and was just available in 24" which is about and inch too long for me. Once I get around to getting a really nice one, I'll go with 22.5" or 23". At the rate I'm losing weight, this one will be too big by Spring anyway. As much as I enjoyed wearing it around today, I'm sure I'll be upgrading to a sized-to-order when the time comes. For now, I'll bee OK a little long.

CONGRATULATIONS on your first kilt, wear it with pride!

For what its worth, most traditional styled kilts are designed to be worn at the natural waist - which is 1 - 2 inches above the navel. So its possible you could wear this kilt a bit higher yet and get the selvedge to mid knee or so.

Welcome to the brotherhood - welcome to the rabble!

    Paul,

Well done. In addition to wearing your kilt a wee bit higher on your waist I would suggest that with hiking boots you should roll/scrunch down your kilt hose (I did the exact same thing.) It just works better. Save the hose up and flashes for dress shoes.

    Good on you!

    Cheers

    Congrats!

Great pictures and you wear it with pride

I agree with Bradley...maybe the kilt is a bit too long, but you can wear it higher as you do on the pictures...touching ribcage is perfectly fine and I'm sure it will look great....hike it up 2 inches.

Also...double fold the hose tops...it will look nicer.

You look like a natural kiltwearer...way to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Very sharp!

Looks like a 21st Century Kilts kilt pin...?

How'd they sew the pleats up?

I'll have to get a shot of the pleats. My wife took one from behind me, but I didn't like it. I could shoot one with the kilt on the hanger. I'll do that in a bit. As far as the pin, I'm not sure. I bought it at the little Scottish store we went to in Old Town Alexandria. I'll shoot a pic of that, too.
