Highland Games Demonstration at Elementary School

I gave a Highland Games demonstration at my daughter's elementary school today for "Culture Day"! Lots of fun! I even got the principal to try throwing a stone. When he was about to try it, I asked the kids what he was missing...they all replied "A Kilt!" - So I pulled out a casual kilt from my bag & put it on him before he could throw

Me talking to the kids about Scotland, Kilts & Highland Games:

    Me & the Principal:

I followed up the outdoor demonstration with a some pictures & bagpipe music while passing out shortbread cookies shaped like Scottish Terriers.

Not to worry, one of the pictures was of a formally dressed bagpiper so they could see how a kilt is supposed to look

For anyone curious, both of the kilts in the picture above are from USA Kilts. The school principal (the guy with the tie & pants) is wearing a USAK Casual (yes he's wearing it too low), and I am wearing a 5-yard Wool kilt from USAK. I love the Casual kilt, but the 5-yard wool just puts it to shame.

Looking great, and what a great experience for your daughter's class. It's one think to hear about, or read about something, it is quite another to actually get to experience a thing. I'll bet the kids will remember this day for quite a long time! Good thinking to bring along an extra kilt for the principal, and what a good sport to wear it.
