Hiking in the Sierras (pics)
Connie and I got away last weekend for some R&R in the Kirkwood Measdows area of the California Sierras. We car camped at Caples Lake and did some local hiking, then backpacked into Emigrant Lake for an overnighter.
Here are some pics of Silver Lake and some surrounding streams.

Silver Lake at Sunset

I thought that this was pretty cool example of hydrodynamics. The water running through this small gap next to my foot...

...turns into this 10 horizontal feet away (no Ron not her, the waterfall! )

Hitting the trail first thing Saturday morning. Kilt is a budget 8 yard heavy weight PV in Scottish National tartan from Buyakilt.com. It's perfect for rugged use without worrying about the outcome.

We had a late winter this year in my part of the state so the mountains are behaving much more as if it's Spring, than Summer. The wildflowers were in abundance in many beautiful colors.

The trail in is 4.1 miles and starts at Caples Lake. The trail stays nearly level for the first 2/3 of the trip, then heads gradually uphill to our destination at Emigrant Lake.
The shoreline at Caples Lake

Trail side creeks and streams

Then finally our destination at Emigrant Lake

The weather was warm in the late mornings through evening, so I took a moment to cool my paws in the lake upon arrival. Regardless of ambient temperature, that water is COLD!

We found a nice camping site, nestled on a granite perch, with a great view of the surrounding mountains and the lake.

A pretty nice view from the inside of the tent looking out over Connie's boots

Connie took some time, as she usually does, to do a bit of Yoga on Sunday morning.

She even got me into the act! I call this pose "Kilted Mantis"

And for my friends in the far North, apparently you guys aren't the only ones with large toothed rodents!

A bit more color on the rocks.

I call this one "Scotch on the Rocks"

Sunday morning was a bit chilly, and the mosquitoes a bit heavy, so I trousered up for some water purification before breakfast

Some time for reflection, and looking forward to the next time. I am a lucky man!

Thanks for joining us on our trip

That's all folks,
Best regards,
Brooke

Great pics as always...
I always love your pics albums, Brooke! Thanks for sharing.
Also, I wanted to comment on your packs...I noticed they are both Osprey brand packs. I recently bought a new messenger-style bag made by Osprey (the Elroy) and I have to say that this thing is SO MUCH MORE than a simple messenger bag. It's the best bag I've ever owned.

Thanks all! It was a great time, as you can imagine.
Yes Jeff, the packs are both Osprey 65 Liter Atmos (mens) and Aura (womens). They are super packs with a great suspension and top notch features. They're great for weekend to week long trips. In fact, this was their maiden voyage!
