Houston Burns Supper
Last Saturday (1/28) I attended the Houston Heather and Thistle Society’s 59th Annual Robert Burns Supper. I didn't do as good a job of documenting it as I would have liked, I'll blame the fact that I'm still pretty run-down from getting over a week of the cough and cold thing that's going around my work. I didn't realize that I didn't even get a photo of myself till I was back home!

A couple shots of the 240 or so attendees finding their seats...

The Houston Highlanders pipe in the haggis.

A great performance by the world champian St.Thomas Pipe band and dancers.

The Houston Royal Scottish Country Dance Society put on a demo, and then invited everyone to join in. Fun, but it might have gone smoother before everyone had been drinking for 3 hours!

Speaking of dancing, here's our own Jack Daw cutting a rug!
I've wanted to go to this gathering for years, but something always came up, so this was my first time attending. It is a fun and entertaining, (though not inexpensive), event, and I had a great time .

Re: Houston Burns Supper
Great pics, looks like they do Burns night on a grand scale in Houston.

Looks like it was a wonderful night. I'm envious.
Scotland is only 1/5 the size of Montana, but Scotland has over 3,000 castles and Montana has none.

Notably, the fellow wearing the white hose and fly plaid (with black tie) is from Falkirk.

Re: Houston Burns Supper
I love seeing the Macpherson hunting tartan being worn by one of the pipe bands. Also, very nice badger sporran, Jack. This one appears very different from your other, am I correct in saying so? The one you are wearing above appears to be a version worn by officers of the Argyll-Sutherland Highlanders, which is made of the native species of badger in the UK, and 6 white tassels - is this an ebay acquisition I wonder? Very smart, flat, streamlined, and clean look! I also like how you wore contrasting Argyll style tartan hose with your kilt - they compliment your kilt, but do not match it, very nice.
Cheers,

Cheers,
Thank you, Kyle. Yes, it's a genuine A&S badger from the early 1990s. In regard to the student pipers, that's not just any juvenile band - It's Houston's own St. Thomas Episcopal School Pipe & Drum Band. The band has won the World Pipe Band Championships (Juvenile) in Glasgow five or more times since 1985. The band was in top form this Rabbie Burns Supper evening, too, and outplayed the Houston Highlanders Pipe Band. And, there is no white hose with the MacP tartan, Kyle.
