I'm a technological Luddite!
Well, I've created a page of sorts at Flickr showing the new jacket from scottish kilts. Since this is my first foray into posting links/addresses, etc., any advice in how to turn this into a hyperlink would be appreciated.

If you pull up the picture and right-click on it, the properties for that image are displayed. The address properties look like this - http://static.flickr.com/32/57708084_dfb0910a1b.jpg?v=0
Now that ?v=0 business is going to try to trap us, but we're smarter than that. So, we are going to delete those characters and then imbed what is left of that URL into [img][/img] tags. And, when we do that, look at what suddenly appears -

Easy-peasy. ;)
As long as you have the address for an image, the IMG tags will allow you to display it. The syntax is - [img]yourimageaddress[/img] You just have to keep in mind that the IMG tags are expecting you to enter an address with an image extension, such as .jpg.
Some Web sites will block this procedure, which is commonly known as hot-linking, so it is usually best to see what kind of storage space your ISP is willing to give you for spending your hard-earned dollars on their service. Most ISP's will give you a meg or so for your own site, so take advantage of that space and store images on it.
As a warning - should you stumble across a third-party image that you feel is crying out to be displayed here, you need to check for possible copyright issues and then (if at all possible) store the picture on your own Web site. If you just start hot-linking to an image on somereallybigguywithareallybadattitude.com, you might discover just how big that guy actually is. And if there are copyright issues, you are dragging the Webmaster on this site into the fray with you, as it is him that is displaying the copyrighted image.
One of these days, I will have you fellows posting images like champs. ;)

Bryan, very nice! I have my eye on the same jacket for more formal occasions, like the upcoming holiday parties!
Mike1, I may be mistaken, but based on his avatar and that picture, Bryan might have no problem handling his own with the guy at somereallybigguywithareallybadattitude.com! Good idea to point out the hot-linking concerns though.

Yeah, I agree with your observation, but what about that other sub-domain - reallyhighpricedlawyer/somereallybigguywithareallybadattitude.com?
For those that are interested, copyright pretty much exists on anything that has been created. If you wrote it on a cocktail napkin, you pretty much hold the copyright on what you wrote. And, for everything you've written on a cocktail napkin since 1 January 1978, that copyright remains in effect for SEVENTY-ONE YEARS after your unfortunate demise. Before the attornies on board start to swarm, there are some ins, outs, loopholes and exceptions to this, but it's usually best to err on the safe side of things.

Well.......
The pics are VERY nice. I love the outfit and the dog (toto) too.
Mike1, I'm 20 years in IT and STILL can't get a pic to show up here. (Not an HTML scholar (sp?) )
I am getting to the point that I can link pages from my own (read reeeallly hideous) website into my posts. I guess that's a start.

Mike, that is really the one I worry about! Also, when somebody innocently hot-links a really popular pic from a site that has, shall we say, "less than optimal" resources for serving the pic up to the masses. Too many sites have been taken down or slowed to a crawl by that issue, just because the typical surfer does not realize all of the plumbing that is behind their web experience.
