Kansas City Tartan Day
What a great day we all had in Kansas City at the Tartan Day celebration!
The venue was EH Yourg Park in Riverside Mo. This is also where the Kansas City Highland Games will be held in June. The Tartan Day celebration was cosponsored by the Highland Games and the Kansas City Saint Andrew Society
The day started out chilly, I was glad I brought a jacket during the flag raising

and the parade of clans

After the flags, the festivities were kicked off by Glenfinnan, a local Celtic rock/folk band

There were demonstrations of Highland Dancing - from wee ones (I think she was about 6 or 7):

Up to quite grown up lasses:

The men also got into demonstrating:

(I wasn't about to tell this guy that his shirt and kilt clashed! )

(sorry for the quality on this one, I had to photoshop it quite a bit - I couldn't get very close and forgot to use the zoom on my camera.)
There was also a demonstration/lecture on historic weapons, but my camera battery died right about then.
But the BEST part of the day is in the next part..........

I got to meet the RABBLE

Left to right
Mark Keeney, berserkbishop (Cunningham tank - his grandmother's work), ChattanCat, Rogerson785 (SWK Black Watch) - You all told me what the other tartans/makers were, but I forgot - chime in and I'll edit.
BB's lovely girlfriend (Leah) and Mrs Keeney (whose name I did not catch, sorry) were there also.
We all stood around and chatted for about THREE hours . People kept coming up to our little "circle" and asking "who ARE you people, you've been here for AGES"! We gave out the website to everybody who asked. Except that rather strange couple with the vampire fascination and the kilt from Hot Topic (rather weird vibe from those folks - scary).
The guys made me sneak in there for one picture, too.

And some other random kilties

I have a sunburn (it warmed up and was sunnier than I though it was!), my feet hurt, and my mind is filled with the skirl of the pipes still. A fantastic day, and thank you guys, for letting me join in!

Wow what a day. My wife commented that she couldn't remember anyone standing around talking about clothes of any kind before for so long.
I had a real good time and I can't wait untill June for the games.
Wonderfull pictures. Thanks for sharing them.

Once I finally left the rabble and managed to find my way back to I-70 and Cabela’s I ended up exchanging my shirt, had a beer and appetizer at the Yard House, walked around Legends, then off to the Granite City Brewery for a corned beef sandwich and a dark Broad Axe Stout. I was going to go to Hooters for a picture with the women but my head was on fire from standing in the sun.

Yep - we didn't realize it at the time, but I think all of us except Mark (who had on a broad brimmed hat) got a bit toasted around the edges! You just don't think about sun screen this early in the spring!.
I'll certainly remember the sunscreen (and a hat!) in June. Hopefully we can all get together again then, and maybe have even more people there.
I had a blast, though! Still smiling this morning. (Chris, I hope your sunburn gets better quickly!)

I too, had a great day. I can't believe we had such a wonderful conversation that we didn't even move all afternoon. We even had some come up to us and were amazed that we were still in the same place. We definately had a circle.
I too got a sun burn. I wore my Balmoral all day so there was a significant debarkation between my sun burn and not.
I have a few pics of the other significant others of berserkbishop:

and Mark Keeney other half: I was taking a picture of the picture taker. If you look closely at the ThreadBbdr last picture of us, you can see the camara on Rogerson's shoulder.

Comments and my pictures
I am very glad that I decided to make the long trek to KC. It was great meeting a portion of the rabble personally and having such a wonderful conversation. I did end up with a sunburned nose and forehead but all in all it was worth it. Here are some pics i took!

It was a great time. I look forward to seeing you all again sometime soon!
