    A kilt in Broceliande

    Hi everybody !

I'm back from two weeks in Broceliande (you know, the famous forest of King Arthur and the round table legend...), where I've been able to wear my kilt more or less every day, until a mischievous imp stole my kilt pin during a walk, leaving me with my jeans for the rest of my trip...

This happened just after the following pictures, taken at the side of Viviane's lake, where the legend tells that Merlin the enchanter, in love with Viviane the fairy, built a cristal castle for her under the water.

It looks a lovely place. Thanks for posting. Sorry to hear that the loss of kilt pin put paid to your kilt-wearing. I would have thought you could have continued without it.

I am sorry about the theft of your kilt pin, but just so you know many who wear the kilt, intentionally and very successfully do not wear a kilt pin with their kilt. A kilt pin is not one of those "must have" things.

I know that, but the combined facts of my kilt being "lightweight" (12-14oz) and Britany being a very windy place make it very difficult to go without a kilt pin if you don't want to see it fly around in front of those ladies...

Ah yes, I can quite see the problem!

I do wonder in all seriousness though, does an ounce ( 28 grams?) or two of metal really make that much difference in a wind?

Actualy I'm convinced it does, as if the cloth stays "vertical" the wind doesn't tend to lift it up because it has low profile this way, but as soon as it begins to get more horizontal, it is not low profile any more and easily gets up...

Just my experience from the "return-to-the-car" half-hour after losing the kilt pin...

My experience here in Western Canada, where the wind often howls, is that a kilt pin is more for decoration, and that the "hands at the side" method works to reduce unintentional exposure!

Hmm. My sporrans take care of that quite handily, and I almost never wear a kilt pin (though admittedly all but one of my kilts are of heavyweight tartan):

I just let the wind blow where it listeth.

Sorry to hear of your loss though, and thanks for the pics!!!
