kilted in the 1980s
I recently borrowed and scanned this old photo. Yours Truly on the right, on the left is my old dearest friend the late Pipe Major Kevin Blandford.

It's a bittersweet photo because I'm reminded of all the fun we had playing together, in a band and also the huge number of duet gigs we did back then. (For you tartanistas out there, we're wearing British Columbia.)
Kevin's family owned a shop, RP Blandford & Son. Here I am working the booth

The tartan is Clan Donald, Muted from House of Edgar; the necktie is The Royal Scottish Country Dance Society of which I was an avid member at the time.

I bought my first kilt(with all my own money) from Blanford's back at their Redlands store in the mid 90's,that was a big day for me and my parents and they seemed to enjoy it to.
Great store,great people!

Great people yes! No better people than the Blandfords. Sadly Kevin and Madelyn have passed. Paul sold the shop and retired (but the shop is in good hands!)
In that photo of Kevin and I we are standing in front of the shop.
We got those British Columbia kilts for the band in 1986, which helps date the photo. The band kit was black Argyll jackets, white hose, ghillies, etc but Kevin and I got full plaids and tartan hose to match, and wore them with our old Full Dress kit from our previous band for our duet gigs.
