    Kilted in the Coastal Redwoods

I spent Saturday hiking in the Big Basin Redwoods State Park near Bolder Creek California. I was in my County Kerry 8 yard machine stitched kilt from the ebay store front of Tartanweb. I purchased it just before that horrific fiasco one of our members experienced earlier this year. It is a good "get what you pay for" kilt made with good material with only a couple of small hiccups in one of the horizontal tartan lines. I believe I paid about $240 US at the time, which it is well worth.

Here it is in action with some of the biggest living things on earth.

Me doing my best "California Tree Hugger"

Many of the trees are really old and have been through numerous fires through the centuries.

Did I mention these things are REALLY BIG!?

This is Connie Colleen, my Irish wood nymph

Where did she go? She was sitting right here!!

And a final one for my Irish friends!!

    Cheers,
    Brooke

Looking good Brooke. I think some of them trees may be bigger than ours!

Nice photos. My father used to take me camping in Big Basin back in the early '60's. I hiked every trail in the park. Hiked the trail to the beach when I was 16. Do they still have the nature center at the park?

Another good day trip is the Roaring Camp & Big Trees railroad in Felton.

Spent a year or so living in that area during the 70's. Always loved those trees. That is about the only place other than Scotland I would choose to live over where I am now.

They do have the older visitor center Highlander. In typical fashion, it has a variety of old photos, displays, and fun facts about the trees and park history.

Agreed, Roaring Camp is also a good trip, though I have not been in a number of years. I assume it still has the narrow gauge train that tours through the forest. I was raised primarily in South San Jose (New Almaden area) but spent my late adolescence in the Santa Cruz mountain area. It really is a beautiful and awe inspiring place to spend time.

I have some more park photos, sans kilt, from last year I can post here later.

Good to know that your Tartanweb kilt worked out ok. What are the small hiccups in one of the horizontal tartan lines like?

And those are some SERIOUS trees...

    Great Pics Brooke...

What an awesome place. I've only driven through the Santa Cruz area redwoods once...on Rt. 9. I would like to get back up there and do some hiking sometime soon. Those trees are simply amazing.

PS. What is it about the women in our lives? They always seem to have that look like "Just take the picture already!" LOL

Here are a couple of close ups of the kilt showing the couple of "get what you pay for issues"

Here it is in it's entirety, you can see the indicated hiccup at high center of the photo

Here is one of the selvedge edge following inspection by my assistant. He assures me there is none of that craziness that affected our fellow member's kilt earlier this year.

Perhaps I'm more tolerant than some, but I do consider the price of an item when deciding what is acceptable or not. This is an 8 yard machine stitched kilt, made of House of Edgar 13oz worsted wool, made to my measurements, for under $250 US. To me, this kilt absolutely is worth what I payed for it. However, with that said, following our fellow member's horrible experience with this vendor, I dont think I would ever take that gamble with them in the future.

    Cheers,
    Brooke

Sounds like a good deal to me. Those hiccups are unfortunate but, thankfully, relatively small.
