Kilted Hike
Just returned from vacationing in the Gatlinburg, TN area. We managed to get in a couple of nice hikes and I wore my trusty UK.
At the bottom of the falls

My wife and I taking a break

My son and his girlfriend (he's "undergrown his kilts - the kid has lost weight like crazy lately!)

Me in front of an old cabin

And finally, there's been a lot of bear news lately with the creatures turning up in very unlikely places like Thomasville, NC near my home and as luck would have it we came across a momma and her two babies in Cades Cove. I couldn't believe the people who got out of their cars and ran right up to them to take pictures like they were pets.

Great pics. Shame about the Disneyfication of America's wildlife understanding----they're beautiful, but they ain't no ways tame. Best appreciated from a distance.

That is one of those critters best seen through a very long lense. I, for one, do not want to get any closer than I have to. Especially a momma with two cubs.
"A veteran, whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve, is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it." anon

I definitely took all my pics from the car! We were stuck behind one rubbernecker and couldn't move if we had wanted. Cars backed up behind us and all these looney tunes came running with cameras in hand like it was Paris Hilton leaving the jail cell. I guess the bears had already eaten. Here's a couple more. Unfortunately most of the pics were blurred, I suppose from trying to shoot through the windshield.

Thanks for the pics. Fond memories of the area...but I'm with Dave all the way on not being stupid around bears...I've read too much too.
Bear pics do remind me of one of my favorite Jimmy Buffett songs about the bear and the still and that honeysuckle vine water...

Blurry or not those are great pictures, also the best way to watch bears, thanks for the shots.

Most of my bear pics are blurry too. Usually from me shaking a little. Stepped out on the deck one night and was practically nose to nose with one. I decided real quickly that she could have the bird feeders.
