Hi there ~ on our hike to wine-glass bay, we were actually trail-running / jogging on the rough walking path - and it was a hot day - but I felt that the light wool (13 ounce) + the air-flow worked ok for me - I have a pretty high tolerance for both heat and cold, so unless it was really really hot, or below zero cel. I think I'd be fine in a kilt ~ (more changing the top half to deal with the temp.)
I love walking and hiking kilted - the best ~
Climbing up steep/ vertical piles of rocks to get to the summit of Cradle-Mountain - I'm not sure, maybe I had more ease of movement compared to jeans, but the kilt could easily get in the way n__n - definitely not traditional mountain-climbing garb ~
