    kilted to the kirk

So I decided to go to church kilted this bright All Hallows morning, and even managed to get a picture taken as I walked out the door. It's not a very good picture, and it was not taken at the church itself, but it can at least serve as proof of my being kilted - the first such picture in existence (other than one I have not seen in 30 years, of me in Brigadoon, likely best lost).

That's a Burnett's & Struth 5-yard knife-pleated kilt and flashes in Maple Leaf tartan, my Thorfinn Custom Sporran 147 (thanks again, Turpin), Oconee leather sporran strap (thanks, Steve/Cavscout), knit tie courtesy of my daughter's vintage clothing shop down the road, and jacket, vest, and hose acquired (along with much fine advice) though Keltoi Gaelic Clothing (thanks, John/Slohairt).

On my way home, someone in a little crowd of men and women shouted out "You wearing underwear under that, buddy?" to which I simply smiled and said "I could ask the same question...." However, in church itself, there were only highly positive comments. Some wanted to know more about the tartan, which a couple of folks recognized immediately, having worn it, leading to a discussion as to why Canada has never officially adopted this Canadian national tartan (all the Canadian provinces and territories except Quebec and Nunavut do have official tartans - see ). One friend, knowing my non-Scottish background, as well as my work in the local queer community, asked if this counted as "Scottish drag," but also said that it looked good. Others clearly agreed. Only one asked if I was also a piper.

My new Keltoi box-pleated Highland Granite kilt should arrive this week (oh, the jonesing!) and I'll hope to get a few more (and etter) pics up sometime after that. Thanks for all the encouragement thus far, folks!

Garrett, I've always thought that the Maple Leaf tartan was really designed for this time of year and it suits you. As for the picture - sunlight and shade, highlights and lowlights - I think it is a good picture.

    Regards

    Garrett,
A very well put together outfit. I am kilted to kirk every week. The one time I showed up in trousers, many were asking of my health. Several men in my church community are regularly kilted, and we have never been accused of being in drag.
