Kilted at Mardi Gras Open House
Ok, this was my inaugural outing for kilt #2 - a USAKilts casual kilt in "Warrior" tartan that I was able to acquire used at a ridiculous price on eBay (Sorry, Rocky - budget willing I WILL buy a new one from you one day soon!). I still consider myself a "newbie" to this, so all constructive criticisms appreciated!
The event was the Open House hosted by my wife's Carnival association this past Saturday afternoon. As usual for me, I was the only person kilted - got several compliments, a few good natured jibes, and this time more than a couple questions as to my "intimate attire"! I was armed and ready to go with a response learn't here - What do you wear under your kilt?
Socks and shoes!

I was going for a VERY Casual look, so I left the sweater out. But I wasn't sure what to do with the belt. I wore it under the sweater, but as you can see, in some of the pictures I look almost pregnant with my belly exaggerated by the belt buckle - so I'm thinking I'll ditch the belt if I wear the sweater out again. (The "bling" is standard Mardi Gras attire, BTW)
As always, I remain in the debt of the many helpful and supportive posters on this board. Without your encouragement, I'd have never had the confidence to start wearing a kilt - and now that I've started I don't plan to stop!!!!!
Humble and Sincere Thanks to you all.

I often wondered about the belt situation. The same thing happened to me. The last time I kilted up I wore the belt because I thought it was the rules. I wore a sweater and it bulged out too far. I may go without the belt next time. The outfit looks great and perfect for Mardi Gras colors. Hope you have a great time and "let the good times roll".
Cheers,
KC

Agreed. Big belt buckles under my thick long untucked sweaters don't look so great on me. I've started going without the belt when my shirt or sweater will be untucked. I think it's a cleaner look for me, even going "t-shirt casual", and it's one less thing to worry about. But I'm still a follow newbie, and still experimenting (and definitely still learning) after 8 or 9 months along on my kilted journey.

I don't wear a belt with a sweater (or jumper as it is called in some places). The kilt straps hold it up, tyvm, and as you both note the buldge under the sweater is not very flattering.

Nice pics, Tom. Your wife and yourself are looking great. I think that the nice thing about a sweater or other pullover, or a vest is that you can leave that big ol` belt and buckle at home. Have fun on Fat Tuesday!

Looking good there Tom. Good choice of shoes and hose to "pound the concrete" of the Quarter. Remember that "earning beads" is different for a man and will get you arrested, especially if you are properly kilted.

I personally don't bother with a belt if I'm wearing a sweater or waistcoat. In fact, I go without the belt more often than not. Anyway, congratulations on getting your kilt and donning it with your better half.
