Kilted near Lochnagar
Well, I got up in the hills as planned at the weekend. Here's a photo of me on Conachcraig, with Lochnagar in the background.

Magnificent view. The kilt and cromag fit in perfectly. You should be on commission for Visit Scotland!

The cromach is actually a Leki Wanderfreund hiking pole. Sort of a 21st century equivalent. It has the advantage of being telescopic, so it can be stowed on my rucksack when scrambling over difficult terrain. Not as aesthetically pleasing as a wooden one though.
I find a stick like that helps me greatly in the hills. It greatly reduces the strain on your legs by helping with balance. I used to have knee problems before I got it, but have had no such trouble since.
As for the commission, I'll happily supply them with my bank account details!

Looking good... It was only a couple of months ago that the view was rather different - I spent a grand few days skiing in the Cairngorm and Glen Nevis areas in late April. Stunning scenery (and, if you're that way inclined, amazing wild skiing if one puts the effort in).

My knee still suffers from sticking one ski into a clump of heather in Glenshee, not that that stopped me skiing. Important to be able to interpret the snow reports. Wet snow on firm base = slush on rocks, etc. Views (if no mist) and hospitality always good though. Best snow conditions I ever got at Cairngorm - fresh powder with sunshine - the lifts were off as a result of a power strike. Few years ago that.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
