Kilted at Stonehenge
After our wonderful trip to Scotland this past summer, we tacked on a few extra days and journeyed south to London. One of the highlights was a side trip to visit Stonehenge where we had the opportunity to walk amongst the stones.
Myself, my wife, with our good friends...

Those magnificent stones...

HOW did you get next to the stones?!?!? My parents did, on their first trip in the '70s, but after that it was fenced off and I've only ever been able to view it from (somewhat) afar. I read it was due to subsidence from all the visitors walking around the base of stones. Have they removed this restriction, or did you have special access?
Wonderful pictures and such a fabulous place!

Excellent pics, looking very smart, I like the matching hose and shirt and the way the accessories tone in with the kilt.

Hi Freelancer
I don't know whether you were lucky or they have changed the policy. During times of high visiting the stones were often fenced off. The public only gets to about 10 yards closest. There were years when the whole area was fenced off to the public except for the 'hippy fest' during the solstice.
I can remember doing as you did and actually touching the stones, when I was a teen. I never imagined that it would be possible again. It is probably time for a revisit. Thanks for posting.
Regards
Chas

Glad you had a good time, sorry we didn't get a chance to meet up.
In your earlier post we covered all about the access to the Stones...... English Heritage do allow special viists on guided tours , but they do ask the visitors not to actually touch the Stones!
Like Chas I went many years ago where there was absolutley free access and that was great, but sadly with the increased number of visitors and possibility of damage , certain preventative measures have to be taken to protect it...
