Kilted Vacation in Bar Harbor
My family and I are on vacation on Mt. Desert Island, in Bar Harbor, Maine. The weather is perfect. Even with rain, the scenery is awesome. My wife wasn't exactly happy, but she let me wear my kilt a couple of days. Here are some pics of the area.
From on top of Cadillac Mountain, the highest point on the East Coast (or so I was told) God may have made Scotland first, but when he finished Mt. Desert Island, he stood here with an ale and a wee dram and said "It is good"

A shot of Bar Harbor over my shoulder

The food of Maine. Can't come here without hitting a Lobster Pound. I highly recommend Thurston's. They're way at the other end of the Island, but the drive is worth it.

Here are the kids and I at Thunder Hole. The waves crash against a hole in the rocks and sounds like thunder.

The scenery just can't get any better.

Great pics. Wear your kilt any time and anywhere around Mt.Desert Island. I have vacationed there most every year the first two weeks in July and have never worn any bottoms other than my Kilts. It is never a problem.

I am glad you enjoyed vacationing in our fair state.
The "Downeast" region and Acadia National Park has many scenic views. You should have sent out some notice. There are a few of us here in Maine that could have arranged a meet up.
Maybe next time!

What you were told is close to the truth.
Cadillac Mountian is not the highest peak on the east coast, not even the highest peak in Maine - that would be Kattadin at 5,268, which is the northern most part of the Appalachian Trial.
No, Cadillac isn't even close. It does have other, more notable, distinctions. At 1,532 feet, Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park is the highest point along the North Atlantic seaboard . The base of the mountain meets the sea.
But even more interesting, it is the first place to view sunrise in the United States. At sunrise on New Years Day it is a busy spot...

Have you ever had the Scottish Ale from the Atlantic Brewing Company? It's very good, and the fact that they use heather in the brewing gives it a very unique, sweet taste. I got a couple of extra bottles to take to Grandfather Mountain in a couple of weeks. Maybe I can get them into the scotch tasting there. I'm sure there would be many folks who would like some.

Thanks for the pics! Mid-Coast Maine is great! I've been several times (each time doing the trip up Cadillac Mountain), but the last time my wife and I were there for a vacation was September 2001. We were in Belfast, Maine the morning of 9/11....
