    Kingussie Me Now?

After a walk this afternoon in a 5-yd Kingussie crafted by Matt Newsome (New House Highland), I dragged my wife outside to snap a few pics.

The first shows the Blaylock tartan (a bit crinkly from the walk and a drooping sporran - my fault, sorry) in heavyweight Dalgliesh Reproduction cloth. Despite the sunlight, it was very cool, thus the leather jacket. Note the moon by the pine tree.

The next pic is highlighted by a shadow picture of two turkeys fighting over a brick. If you can tear your eyes away from that, can you see the box pleat in the kilt? I like the way Matt does that.

Matt pleated the kilt to the black stripe so that the brighter red color is hidden in the pleats. It flashes brightly as I walk along, or in this case as I stare at a recently pruned Cottonwood tree.

Actually, Matt made three Blaylock Kingussie kilts - two more for my son and brother. In the not-too-distant future I hope to post pictures of my son and me in full regalia including our matching half-belted plaids (also made by Matt) and matching tartan vests - a tartan extravaganza! Stay tuned, or be forewarned, whichever applies.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

cottonwood pruning and shadow puppet turkey fighting are fading arts. thank you for the photo essay on the subjects.

i am not sure which i enjoyed more--the amazing kilt or the commentary by the op.

Love the tartan, John. Looks a bit like my fav Red Douglas. I've the same hose that I wear with it too. Very nice look overall, and especially like the unique look from the backside (the kilt's, not your's). Always liked the Kingussie look, and still do with mine in Anc Caledonia by Keltoi. Very sharp indeed.

Nice to finally see pictures! The kilt looks very handsome on you, and seems to fit well. I'm glad you are pleased, and hope the rest of your family wears theirs as well!

Looking great! The tartan really looks great pleated to the stripe.

I've always meant to ask how the "swish" is with a Kingussie. I know it won't have the weight of an 8yd kilt, but I if there was a swish with the pleats running opposite directions, or if it is more like a box pleated kilt, where there isn't really much at all.

I never noticed anything unusual with my 8yd heavyweight wool tartan kilts until after I started wearing my Kingussie, but now I think they may actually feel like their movement is a bit asymmetric, i.e. they swing slightly more and easier one way than the other, but only since I started putting the Kingussie I have in my kilt rotation. I think the Kingussie feels more symmetric than the traditionals although I have never been behind myself (or anyone else for that matter) when wearing the Kingussie to be able to watch the swish to be able to tell. I guess I need to find a hall of mirrors and try it sometime. Or find someone else with another Kingussie and walk behind them.

I can see it and that pleating is a stroke of genius. Congrats!
