Lochcarron at Lochcarron

Yesterday I was out on the rounds of our local textile mills compiling a new album for my website and yes there are at least twelve mills here in Hawick still producing various items of clothing, everything from underwear to tweeds and woollens. Short Brothers and House of Cheviot - Hawick Sock Company both produce kilt hose and of course Lochcarron produce the tartan fabric for many of our kilts. I took the opportunity to get this self portrait of my Teviotdale 8 yard 13 oz kilt in front of the Lochcarron mill in Princes Street, Hawick, where the Lochcarron kilt fabrics are woven. This is not quite a case of a kilt returning to its birthplace - the fabric for this kilt would have been woven at the old Lochcarron mill in Galashiels which has since been demolished.
