The Loneliness of the Long Distance Traveller

To travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive
Hope and anticipation are often better than reality.
This phrase is a Robert Louis Stevenson quotation, from Virginibus Puerisque, 1881:
"Little do ye know your own blessedness; for to travel hopefully is a better thing than to arrive, and the true success is to labour."
Stevenson was expressing the same idea as the earlier Taoist saying - "The journey is the reward."

Where are you headed to? I spend a lot of time in airports, so I understand the sentiment.

I understand Alex. At one point in my career, there was a six week period where I spent more time in the air than I did on the ground with the clients, or my family.
Where are you headed?

I do understand that sentiment... This week I drove 1000 miles and found a low cost motel to live in for the next couple months.. I work and basically just come back to my room and wait for another day to come. It's Sunday and I am watching the tele, waiting for my girlfriend to call sometime today....lol it's lonely, but worth it, workwise..
Next weekend I may venture to explore the area a bit more.. but till then it's work, motel, and the occassional trip to Walmart...lol

Alex, was that all the luggage you had with you for a two day visit? I'd have had at least one suitcase, maybe a cabin-trunk and a couple of hat boxes were I in your shoes!! I have never managed to travel light - ever.
You should have let me know you were coming down. Gatwick is only a 45 minute drive from Storrington so we could at least have met at the airport for a coffee or something of a more Seasonal nature. Next time, eh?
Take care,
Ham.

That's a remarkably quiet looking Gatwick.
