Me And My Son
Pic of me and my son a few weeks ago. I know, waistplate and fur during the day... but sometimes (usually) I feel like fancying up a bit for the locals. My son... well... he has his own style.

A pic of my son at school. His black kilt, black button down and red tie. He is one of a surprisingly large number of kids in his high school who kilt up on a pretty regular basis.

I see nothing wrong with your waistplate and fur! Looks good. I'm learning to recognize the Leatherneck tartan too, of course your choice of kilt pin helped. Looking good!

My best (piper) bud from h.s. (35 years ago) wears Converse sneaks with his kilt sometimes. Your son looks fine.

But that's what the kilt is all about - having your own style!

Yep, waistplate and fur is OK in my book too.

I'm enjoying the contrast in kilted-style between the generations.

I wanted to leave the fur tassles on, but my wife made me take them off before leaving the house. Probably was for the best. My daily wear for 20 years or so have been Hawaiian shirts no matter what trousers I'm wearing so she sometimes has to rein me in when I go for new looks. I have the fashion sense of a duck.
My son puts together some of the strangest getups with his kilts, but always winds up looking pretty sharp. I wish I could pull off most of his looks, but they don't work on me. I pretty much have to lean towards the traditional, which is okay. I love flashes, garters, plates, pins, etc. I'd probably wear full dress sporrans everywhere if I were allowed. I just can't find it in me to dress "down" in a kilt. It just feels wrong on a couple of levels. Maybe in time I'll lighten up.
p.s. For anybody wondering why I'm wearing sporran hangers as well as a chain, is because I bought the hangers about 2 minutes before this photo and didn't have enough room in my sporran to carry them, so I just put them on... and yeah, I kinda like the look. (remember what I said about my fashion sense?) hahaha

Your son definitely pulls off both looks well, but I think the picture of him at school looks better.

The kilt is evolving and why not. Every young generation has his/her own style.
Wish I were his age again. Cool.

Dad, I think you should wear a kilt with a Hawaiian shirt. My fashion sense is what you told me to do, wear what I like and not give a care what others think. Sometimes, I got the fashion sense of a duck on crack (really, but my sense is usually better than most people at school. Even on a bad day. Hahahaha), but I pull it off because I like it and I own it. You do the same, dad.
And of course I wear Chuck's with my kilts. Sometimes I'll wear my mother's Doc Martin's with my kilts but the Chuck's just feel right.
