Mess o' the Nor Cal Rabble at a Celebration of Life
Sadly, Gene McCracken, our local Clan MacNaughton tent convener, passed away in his sleep a couple of weeks ago. Gene was an absolutely great guy. He and his wife Ruth were so welcoming to this guy (me) when I first discovered that there was a McKnight in the family tree. Gene and Ruth also hosted the Nor Cal Rabble many times in the Clan tent at the Games here in Northern California. Even after the Rabble started it's own tent (which has morphed into the San Francisco Saint Andrews Society tent) we always set up next to the MacNaughtons. Gene and Ruth have come to several Nor Cal Rabble Burns Nights, and did the Address to the Haggis a couple of years ago.
You get the picture....he was a good friend to a lot of us.
Ruth invited us to his Celebration of Life Party, and I'm pleased to announce that I and MacFhearchair made an executive decision to make the Clan of the Day award at the Ardenwood Tartan Day event be renamed the Gene McCracken - Clan of the Day Award.
I think he would have gotten a kick out of that.
At any rate, here's a picture of a mess 'o the Nor Cal Rabble at the gathering.

Image is thanks to the Amazing Madalyn..... cook and wonderwoman of so many of our Nor Cal Rabble Burns Nights.

Since I was in the very back and my lovely daughter was cropped out of the photo here is the two us at the event.

I was happy she could could come with me as Gene also seemed to like young people so much. It was a really nice celebration and we will all miss Gene.
Cheers
Jamie

Condolences and many happy memories to you all.....
Everyone looked especially nice and I'm sure your friend approves. Even Alan looks sharp for someone that "just threw it on"....well done to all.....

Well Alan does clean up quite nicely if you can get him to wash his hands of all that strange goop those throwers put on their hands to improve their grip (they always smell like pine sap!)
Cheers
