I finished this up, this morning. Since Mike and I are almost exactly the same size, I'm wearing it for a few hours this morning, to make sure nothing falls apart! Since it's on, I figured I'd get some pictures. It's a 6 yard, Holyrood tartan in polyester-viscose. The upper half of the fell is machine-sewn...basically the part that is under the belt. It's strong, there's also a load-bearing strip of doubled-over material sewn in along the waistband. This strip will take any load off of the pleat-sewing....I usually put this in my kilts nowadays. The bottom half of the fell is hand-sewn, because I just couldn't stand mis-aligning the stripes as much as would likely happen if I used a machine. Essentially all the rest of the kilt is machine sewn. It's hemmed because the marton Mills PV doesn't come with a kilting selvedge. It's not blind-stitched, seeing as this kilt is for beating up on the throwing field, nobody will care. I expect it will also get worn to the pub, where it will likely encounter beer and also Mike's daughters sippy cup, and contents. Look for this kilt in action in the Professional Athletes class at a Highland Games near you, in 2012. Mike Pockoski...
