    Morning hike

With temps in the 90's all summer I just haven't gotten out as much as past years. So when I woke early this morning to 60 degree temps I grabbed my kilt and headed for the mountains. Here are a couple shots from where I was hiking just east of Layton Utah looking out across the Great salt Lake.

It is always nice to have a cool morning to get a hike in. Thanks for sharing the photos. I see you are a fan of a good pair of treking poles. Mine are about 18 years old and have many miles and memories on them. Keep up the hiking...

Matty: Great pictures. Thanks for posting. You must have got up early to catch that shadow in your first shot.

What kind of trees are those in the 2nd picture - some kind of scrub oak? Was the shot taken towards the west? I would think the north facing slope was most heavily wooded. And, how do you carry water?

It was so cold here last night that we built a bonfire in the back yard.

I was on the Trail by 7am. It is now almost 12:30 and already in the High 80's The Mountains rise almost 4000 feet behind me to the East so that casts quite a morning Shadow

Mostly Scrub oak the larger trees to the left are Curl-leaf Mountain Mahogany

Both shots were looking west and there is an amazing tree cover on the northern slopes in some areas.
    how do you carry water?
I normally carry a camel back I own 5 of then in different sizes This mornings hike was short so no water today.

I don't think we have Mountain Mahogany trees in our mountains, but I'm not a tree expert by any means. They make a nice looking cover. We do have a lot of Ponderosa, Aspen, and Douglas Fir.

It's a little after 12:30 here, 80 degrees, and I'm off to ride my mountain bike, ... so it will rain.

Looking good. I would really like to do some hiking in a kilt and was just sitting here contemplating a four yard box pleat.

Very nice Matty. Love the hat. The sporran doesn't bother you hiking?

Wish we could arrange for it to be a bit warmer in Britain and Ireland and a bit cooler where you are.
