My son the brute at Saline Celtic Festival
We went to the Saline Michigan Celtic festival this weekend. Saturday morning we ran a 3 mile obstacle race, then enjoyed the games. There was an area set up for highland games for kids fourteen and under. My ten year old had a blast. At the caber toss there were several different sizes available. He asked for the biggest one. The volunteer tried to talk him into a smaller one one to no avail.

This was the first time he has done the caber toss. First attempt was a dud. The photos are of his second attempt. The rest of the summer I'm sure he will be destroying my lawn throwing stones and lumber.

My boys did the kids games until they got too old. Then they did demonstrations before the kids games for a few years. They loved the games. One is going to be 21 this fall, maybe he will take up the games again. Great pictures, keep encouraging your young man.

For a lighter caber they used different lengths of cardboard tubes that you might find inside a roll of carpet with a two by four duct taped inside. Adaptable to almost any age or size while still useful for teaching technique.
