National Tartan Day Fredericksburg 2011 - Pix
What a difference a day makes! We were blessed with a beautiful spring day to celebrate National Tartan Day. The Scottish Society set up its display table at Hugh Mercer’s Apothecary Shop in historic downtown Fredericksburg. No sooner than we set up, our first visitor Ray began conversing with Avril. Ray had just this week arrived from Scotland. As it turned out both Ray and Avril are from Edinburgh!

Deborah of the local Celtic band, Moch Pryderi played her violin for us as her daughter danced with delight.
Some chose to listen to the wonderful music from afar.

MC with the group.

The docents of the Apothecary keep a watchful eye on us!

David and Nancy new arrivals to Fredericksburg joined us for the day. They are members of the Tidewater Scottish Society.

Here’s a head turner!

At day’s end John took up my offer for some refreshment at the Fredericksburg Pub. He enjoyed the Bellhaven Scottish Ale, fish & chips and a favorite of XMarkers the Tipsy Laird for dessert.

John with some of the staff show off their Tartan Day buttons!

The perfect ending to a perfect day!

Where did the Haggis piggy bank come from? I could have used that on Tuesday when I gave a brief presentation to an English class on Burns.
Great pictures, Ern...I must make it to Fredericksburg someday and visit the Mercer Apothecary Shop -- I love the fact that they fly the Grand Union flag (it's my favourite version of the American flag!) outside the shop.

The Haggis bank was a gift to Avril from her Mum which she acquired at a flea market. Yes, with the all the history of the Fredericksburg area, you may need a few trips, here! Would enjoy showing you around!

Ern,
Great photos. I had intended to show up unannounced and make National Tartan Day in Fredricksburg my debut event, but unfortunately an elderly couple around the corner from our home had a tree uproot during the early morning storm we had a few days ago and I promised them I'd cut it up and dispose of it for them. That took a lot longer than I expected, so I had to pass on the trip to F'burg.
So I guess the So. Maryland Celtic Festival will have to be the debut of my kilt.
Again, enjoyed viewing the photos - as always, excellent quality and format.
