New finds and buys
Greetings all, seems I need to stay away from the computer and the auction sites when I make overtime. Well it is just money and you cant take it with you. Just thought Id share some of the interesting items and deals I've had lately. I post them here because in many ways they are or can be considered kilt or clothing related.
First is my newest sporran. The overtime made my mouse take me to Mojo leather for a sporran Ive been wanting for a while. I have 3 inexpensive sporrans that are adequate but I like a more hand made look. I picked up one of their Rob Roy sporrans in brown leather. This will soon become my most used sporran as it is very casual, well made, soft supple leather, has alot of room and looks great. The leather is very soft and the flap is stiff without being too stiff. Very roomy and they use antler horn for the closure device.

Next is an interesting couple of items I got from Shopgoodwill. Ill age myself saying I remember when I used my dads shoe horn to put on my good sunday go to meeting shoes. It has been decades since Ive ever needed one but after buying 3 pairs of wingtip shoes to wear with kilt I found the need not to destroy the back of my shoes. I found this pair of leather shoe horns and got them for a bid of less than 10 dollars. Pretty classy way to slip on my brogues without trashing the back of them.

Of course overtime makes you buy kilts and I did. A review of this kilt will be written this weekend on a separate thread on Stillwater Kilts. I got the economy wool Black Watch kilt and it is very nice. Actually I got two of them, one for everyday and camping use and one for nicer wear. They fit well and look great.

Excuse the socks and such, I just put the kilt on out of the box and snapped a couple photos.

Ok now here is the deal of deals that I could not pass up. Ive gotten some good items on Ebay but equally if not better deals on Shopgoodwill. This past February I ran across a loom on the site and watched it till the last day. It is a full size floor loom that had to be picked up instead of shipped. It was also located in Colorado Springs. Well I waited to the last 45 seconds and put in my bid, walked away and pured two fingers of scotch. I figure I would celebrate or at least have a drink of scotch to ease the disappointment. Well I celebrated when I scored a 2,700 dollar loom for 315. By the time I went and got it I still only had 550 in it. What a deal. You ask how is this kilt related well...... it is a 36 inch wide 4 shaft jack loom that I can make anything from rugs to fine cloth. My girlfriend wants to make rugs, I plan to become accomplished enough to make my own tartan cloth for kilts. I also can make blankets and things as well. So Im pretty excited to develop my weaving skills to the point of weaving my own 8 yards. Pictured is the Leclerc Nilus 8 shaft loom, mine is 4 shaft but the same model.

Ive already spent my overtime this week buying 6 yards 60" wide middle weight houndstooth wool cloth from Ebay. Ive got to jones for this till May but in time it will become a jacket and waist coat and if enough left over Ill make some plus2 breeks.
Its only money and one can never have enough kilt or kilt related items.
