    Red face new goat hair sporran from Diamond Cactus Saddlery

    Dear fellow xmarkers, I just got a new goat hair sporran with an engraved solid brass cantle that

    I accept the brotherhood membership with joy. One question, what kind of metal is the cantle? I really like the look of your cantle. Does your sporran have a lot of room inside or is it merely for looks? best regards Mattie

    That cantle is probably from the 1920s or thereabouts, and is silverplate over solid nickle. I've never seen one like it, in 35 years of scrounging. The body is a new Scottish-made goathair body, made exactly like the c1980-present MOD hair sporrans, the body being a huge pocket, the leather body being 6 1/2" wide by 11" long.
