New (to me) box-pleat kilt
I bought this kilt from fellow X-Marker Guinness>water. It's a Skye Highland Outfitters 4-yard box-pleat (16 oz.). The tartan is Lord of the Isles. It came with other goodies which I'm not wearing in these pics, except for the galley kilt pin.
Normally I'm not one to wear a tartan of a clan I have no association with. But I had been wanting to try a box-pleat kilt for hiking in our blazing summers here in Texas. This was a good price, and more importantly MY SIZE, which is hard to find. I'm actually a bit on the heavy side right now, so I have the straps on the last holes. But once I shed a few pounds... like 8 to 10... it'll fit perfect.
So here are a couple of pics of my new kilt. I do like the swish and bellows effect of the box pleats. And the reduced amount of material (compared to my 8 yard tank) is much cooler.

Some one with much better knowledge than myself can chime in but the Tartan Register list the tartan as "Portrait/Artefact" not clan. Further it says: "From a painting in Armadale Castle, discovered by D.W. Stewart for his book, 'Old and Rare Scottish Tartans' published in 1893."
I believe, however, the title is held by a British royal. In any circumstance it looks good and I do like box pleats.

Looks great Tobus!
I have tended to prefer the look of knife pleated kilts, but the more I see nice looking box pleats the more interesting they look. I guess exposure to new things can do that to ya. But really, that's the last thing I need, another kilt related option to spend my money on!

Looks AWESOME!
Great! It looks perfect on you, wish it had fit me. Its really nice to see something that you had go to someone who can use it and make it look good.
Thanks for posting pictures.
Somebody ought to.

Great looking kilt. I love my double box and am looking to get/make a single box pleat.
By the way you look super familiar. Not like someone I know but someone famous. Ahhh it's gunna drive me crazy.

The kilt looks great on you - very bright blue-green and most definitely cool looking. You have that innate sense of style - impeccable, as usual.
Yes, the increased poundage is definitely noticeable. A lot of us fat guys would love to have your "bulk". On the other hand, we have you at a disadvantage in one important area - a built in rain shelter for our sporrans.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Thanks guys! Seanachie, I was under the impression that this was a MacDonald tartan? Is it considered more of a historic but non-clan-specific tartan, then?
MacMillan's Son, yeah, knife pleats are my favorite. Can't beat the look of a tank with knife pleats. But for summer and casual settings, where a four-yard kilt is better suited, I am not super fond of the way knife pleats look with the lower yardage. I have been watching everyone else show off their box pleat kilts and had to try it. So far, I really like it.
Cowher, it's weird... I've been told that many times before. That I look like someone famous, but like you, no one can ever pin it down to a name.
