New USA Kilt: pics, review, comments, beer

Hi all, I got my new kilt a couple of weeks ago. I've been crazy busy and unable to post any pics or comments.

So, here goes... First of all it's a USA Kilts semi traditional in Murphy tartan. It's an Irish tartan aka Tara.

I asked Rocky to make it without the third buckle (the lower one on the right side). I'm very pleased with the service from Rocky, the communication, and especially the finished product.

My belt is a police duty belt I found in a leather shop for $20. The style is sometimes referrred to as a Sam Browne belt. Although, Sam Browne sometimes means the belt has a chest strap to help hold it up (think Hitler and Mussolini). I think it's a great casual look and is very comfortable (not Hitler, the police duty belt).

The sporran is a Buzz Kidder celtic knot sporran. This is a great sporran. I especially like the magnetic closing snap. My other sporrans have a snap button and they are awkward and difficult to snap shut - this one is great. Got it from USA Kilts and am very pleased with the price and the quality. Ridiculously soft leather and meticulous craftmanship.

The sporran strap is made from para cord - that's the stuff parachute cord is made from and is used for a variety of things. My business brings me to miltary bases and I saw a craft booth at the PX that featured things made by disabled vets out of para cord. I asked then to make me a sporran strap. I love it. AFTER I comissioned the strap and thought myself a genius for thinking of this, I searched the forums here and see that it has been done by many folks for a long time. Well, I wasn't original. But, it was an original thought to me anyhow.

Pictures were taken (with my wife) on our way out the door to a Flogging Molly concert. My wife won tickets to the concert from a radio station the day before my new kilt arrived. We got sound check passes, got to meet and talk with the band, and I even got to bring them a case of beer from the brewery I work for. Incidentally, the brewery is blocks from the concert arena and the beer was brewed days before. I think that impressed the band.

There were at leat a dozen kilts at the concert, traditional and modern - all worn well. We (kilt wearers) were well represented at the Colorado Springs Flogging Molly concert. At the pub across the street before the show there were 3 of us drinking a pint wearing the kilt! What fun!

Pics: (I'm the tall bloke, the pretty lass is my bride)

This is me making the goofiest pose I could:

Yes, I'm wearing a flat cap... please, just let it go. I wear one every day and nothing said here will make me alter my behavior one bit.

I work for a brewery and am the representative at beer festivals. Tomorrow I'm doing a beer tasting at the Air Force Academy. It's an event to raise money for the Sertoma club. Cool cause and great beer. Next weekend I'll be at a festival in a little town called Canon City raising money for their community arts program. Kilted as well. So, if you live in Southern Colorado and drink beer, you'll probably see me working the festivals. Come by and say hi. If you're kilted - The beer's on me!

Very nice , kilt4beer! You two make a nice couple. Like my wife too, we can see who wears the pants in the family. I envy your job working with a brewery. Do you wear the kilt at all the festivals?

Congrats on the new kilt, it looks great and so do you. I also wear a duty belt when dressed casually. Your whole look is very "North American Irish" and I'll bet you fit right in with the other kilties at the concert.

Flat caps and apologies don't mix!

Some people have heroin, some have flat caps...and I don't think I'd like heroin. The elevation out here in CO must elevate one's taste in headwear! Nice kilt, nice bride, love to try your beer!

Flogging Molley were here?!?! I check their website all the time and saw nothing about Colorado dates!! Da**it!! [GuiltTrip]Oh well... Glad someone had a good time- WITHOUT ME!! Couldn't just send me a PM invite, could you? No- that would have taken to much time out of your busy schedule. [/GuiltTrip] So on a serious note- you doing anything in the metro area any time soon? I had a good time hanging out with you over St. Pat's weekend, and wouldn't mind saying hello again.
